Bharat's Jet Engine Kaveri crosses given target thrust level
India's indigenous Kaveri dry engine, developed by DRDO's Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), has reportedly achieved 48.5 kN of thrust during high-altitude and flight trials in Russia, exceeding its target of 46 kN.
The test data will now be reviewed by CEMILAC before the engine moves toward airworthiness clearance and prototype integration. If these upcoming phases are completed successfully, the Kaveri engine program could mark a significant milestone for India's indigenous military aviation capabilities.
Key Highlights Summary
Developer: DRDO's Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE)
Trial Location: Russia (High-altitude & flight trials)
Performance: Reached 48.5 kN (surpassing the target performance of 46 kN)
Next Step: Data review by CEMILAC for airworthiness certification and integration into platforms like unmanned stealth combat aircraft (UCAVs).
